Spring 2024 Youth Interns

Get to know our interns through the brief introductions below!

Trisha Yee (she/her)

I like to make jewelry, perform, study math, and learn about etymology in my free time.

Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?

Medicine, particularly drugs and genomics is what interests me the most. Understanding the human genome will allow us to further understand evolution and other parts of science. I also want to understand drugs for certain conditions, why they work, and how we can manufacture them to be more affordable, accessible, and eco-friendly.

Nathaniel He (he/him)

I enjoy hanging out with my friends and play spots such as tennis and boxing. Hobbies I have are playing games with my friends and giving emotional therapy to people by either talking to them about their emotions or goal setting. Some goals I want to make for myself are to be able to commit consistent time in the program to gain knowledge and experience. Fun facts about me are that I play the guitar very frequently and do music production. I also do cinematography for sports and skateboarders.

Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?

I want to pursue my career in medicine because I want to be able to help and solve peoples problems and also to communicate with people. Additionally, I want to be able to develop problem solving habits and relationship with patients.

Rhomie Dieudonne (she/her)

I love to read fantasy books, listen to music, and play video games. One of my side hobbies is architecture and interior design! I love to practice this on Bloxburg by building various things like houses and towns. Additionally, a fun fact about me is that I don’t like chocolate.

Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?

I want to pursue a career in medicine to be a voice for those often left out and mistreated in the healthcare system. Specifically, I'm passionate about addressing the overmedication and neglect faced by foster children. Moreover, I aim to be someone who brings about positive change in healthcare, advocating for fairness and a system that works for everyone. To achieve this, I want to tackle the root issues leading to overmedication in foster care and promote a healthcare environment focused on comprehensive, patient-centered care. As a doctor, I aspire to contribute to a fair and compassionate healthcare system, ensuring it meets the needs of all, especially the most vulnerable in our society.

Alina Mei (she/her)

Alina, a junior at Lowell High School, boasts an eclectic list of never-tried foods, ranging from boba to tacos to salad. She can frequently be found immersed in a variety of endeavors, whether diligently tackling school and community college coursework or passionately pursuing extracurricular interests. However, amidst her busy schedule, she often embodies her cozy potato persona, seeking solace in the pages of a good book.

Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?

I'm deeply interested in contributing to the field of medicine through research, particularly in areas related to health equity. I have a strong belief that everyone should have equal access to healthcare, regardless of their background or financial status. Growing up in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, I've witnessed firsthand the stark disparities in healthcare access faced by many residents. These disparities often result in untreated illnesses and tragic outcomes, leaving makeshift memorials as poignant reminders of lives lost too long. These experiences have fueled my desire to address these inequities and work towards a future where everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life. I am driven by a strong desire to make a meaningful change in the lives of individuals and communities. I believe that through research, we can identify and implement solutions that dismantle systemic barriers to healthcare access, thereby fostering better health outcomes for all.

Josephine Tam (she/her)

I'm Josephine and I am currently a junior at Lowell High School. Typically, you can find me buried under a mountain of school work or passionately immersing myself in extracurricular activities. However, sometimes you can catch me bundled up in my bed, indulging in my passion for carbs, or poking away at my latest needle felting project.

Why do you want to pursue a career in medicine?

My desire to pursue a career in medicine stems from an aspiration to aid people in their health journey. From my own personal experience, I want to make a positive impact on younger people which fuels my passion for a career in medicine focused on pediatric care.
