Stanford University School of Medicine is the medical school of Stanford University and is located in Stanford, California founded in 1908. With a reputation of being one of the best medical schools, its expectations of its students are high and acceptance rates are low. Despite these disadvantages, Stanford offers many opportunities for medical students and holds a lot of promise for those who manage to get in. It has managed to produce many successful physicians, living up to its prestige.

Stanford University School of Medicine has an acceptance rate of approximately 4%. When it comes to MCAT scores and GPA, Stanford Medical School has extremely high expectations. Those who get accepted usually have a GPA of 3.7 or above, with those having a 4.0 or above more likely to get accepted. The average MCAT score is 519 (for reference, the highest score is 528) and the average GPA is 3.89. So for high achievers and hard workers who are interested in working in the medical field, Stanford may be a great option for you.
What are some of the admission requirements?
International Students must have studied for at least one academic year at an accredited college or university in the U.S., Canada, or the United Kingdom before applying for admission
Must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college before matriculation or the formal process of entering the school.
Include at least one MCAT score in your application from an exam. There is a time range of what score they will accept depending on how long ago your exam was taken. For example, to be considered for the 2022 admissions cycle, at least 1 MCAT result from an exam taken after January 2018 and before September 11, 2021 should be included in your application.
Once your application is reviewed you may be invited for an interview, so it’s best to prepare for that.
Like most schools, you will have to write essays as part of your applications. Stanford requires you to write more than one essay.
Although Stanford School of Medicine does not have any specific course requirements, it is highly recommended to have taken classes that prepared you for the study of medicine such as biology and chemistry
How much does it cost to attend Stanford?
For the 2020-21 school year, Stanford’s quarterly tuition was $20,731. The tuition is payable in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter quarters. It is recommended to have an overall budget of $131,861, preferably more if you decide to live on campus. The costs are pretty high, but fortunately, there are many opportunities for tuition reductions for those who may struggle with it. Students participating in research may qualify to have their tuition reduced. The majority of the Stanford medical students qualify for financial aid. Loans, grants, and opportunities from outside sources are also available. It is best to keep these options in mind and use them to your advantage if you are planning on attending.

Stanford School of Medicine is home to a variety of research programs and research centers. Some programs and centers are run by professors, some are supported by outside organizations, and some are collaborations with other schools. These programs research various topics, from brain development and neuroscience to different types of diseases and disorders.
Stanford also has many buildings and facilities for you to possibly take advantage of. Within the campus is the Lokey Stem Cell Research Building which is the largest building dedicated to stem cell research in the country as well as the Li Ka Shing center where a healthcare simulation training facility is located. Not only that, the School of Medicine also has close ties to great hospitals such as Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara, CA, home to skilled cardiac surgeons, and the Children's Hospital Central California in Sacramento, which includes physicians from Stanford University.
Are you a high school junior or senior looking for something to do over the summer? Stanford School of Medicine has a youth summer program dedicated to helping students understand how scientific research is done and to increase the diversity of students and researchers in the sciences. This 8-week-long program is called the Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program. In this program, students are invited to perform basic research with Stanford faculty and researchers on a medically-oriented project. They also offer a Stanford Medical Youth Science Program for underrepresented and low-income high school juniors where they develop skills and learn more about the medical path.
